in common with every other artist, my practice has been affected by the covid pandemic, but I have also lost over twelve months as a result of moving house from North Yorkshire to Leicestershire, with my new studio only just approaching completion in December 2021. During this period, shows, visits to galleries and meetings with other artists have been very rare, but there has been time to reflect on past activity, and to plan a way forward.
So far as any plan can beneficially be put into practice, the past decade's ad hoc learning experience should continue, around a focus on portraiture and narrative painting; not so different, but intentional rather than accidental. Protracted reflection has not changed my view that these genres offer the stiffest tests and the greatest rewards if meaningful work is to be produced. Not so certain about media, but oils, wax and print will be prominent.
